Although there are many books published in solid state physics, there is a wide gap between the active field of research and the concepts traditionally taught in solid state courses. This book fills that gap. The style is tutorial, simple, and completely self-contained. Solid State Physicsexplains to readers the newest advances in the area of.   Since the publication of the first edition over 50 years ago, Introduction to Solid State Physics has been the standard solid state physics text for physics students. The author's goal from the beginning has been to write a book that is accessible to undergraduates and consistently teachable. The emphasis in the book has always been on physics rather than formal mathematics.5/5(2).

NUMERICAL PROBLEMS IN SOLID STATE PHYSICS presents a collection of solved examples, unsolved review problems and multiple type of questions on different topics of Solid State Physics/Condensed Matter.

Asked to answer, so I’ll jump in here. Kittel is probably the most popular out there. I don’t like it as much, though, because in my opinion Kittel’s style is a bit terse in that he doesn’t provide as much detail into deriving the equations as I’d. Learning solid state physics involves a certain degree of maturity, since it involves tying together diverse concepts from many areas of physics. The objective is to understand, in a basic way, how solid materials behave. To do this one needs both a good physical and mathematical background. One.

The text itself is an excellent introduction to solid state physics and rates 5 stars. The paper is cheap and not glossy. It is distracting to be able to see the text and figures from the opposite side of the page. Some of the pages have dark black smudges or discoloration from the printing process.

Some pages have small tears/5(72). Solid State Physics, Volume 71 provides the latest volume in this long-running series.

Honestly, I don't think all of the chapters are good. I think the best chapters are like the first ~8 (on crystals, scattering, and Bloch's theorem), and then chapters ~ (on phonons and specific heat).Reviews: Solid State Physics.

Solid-state physics is the study of rigid matter, or solids, through methods such as quantum mechanics, crystallography, electromagnetism, and is the largest branch of condensed matter -state physics studies how the large-scale properties of solid materials result from their atomic-scalesolid-state physics forms a theoretical basis of materials science.

In my experience, Omar's "Elementary Solid State Physics" is the best for undergraduates because the QM requirements are light. It is a better choice than Kittel's book. Ashcroft & Mermins book "Solid state physics" is IMO the best graduate level book.
